Initial Assessment
Over the summer I was set a task to consider and think about my pre-production for my movie and the genre I would like to create my movie in. I have gathered some ideas on what I want to create which is an action movie with a fight scene and this includes an organization which tests on humans against their will and the main character is a special agent investigating deaths and how they link together. This movie is mainly going to focus on special effects and my camera techniques along with the story of the movie to ensure it is interesting for my audience which will be teenagers. Although I have not progressed far in planning my pre-production I still need to create a draft of a script and receive feedback as well as organize auditions so I am able to cast the correct characters into my movie. I have also started locating locations I can use and noting them down before progressing into my pre-production further.
I will need to gain permission for using the locations I would like to film at if permission is required and I also need all my actors to sign paper work which allows me to use the footage captured. Some issues I have encountered is finding the time to be able to capture my movie and the special effects I am planning to use within my movie will take a lot of time so I need to ensure I use my time wisely to ensure no time is wasted and I meet the deadline. I am also not sure if I want to use multiple cameras or just one because using multiple cameras will make filming faster but limits my ability to be creative within each scene.
The reason my movie is based around an organization testing on humans is because I think it will appeal to make target audience and it allows me to have several opportunities to enhance my movie with special effects which will be added after capturing the footage. To do this I will need Adobe premiere pro and possibly after effects which is supplied by the college which means I don’t need to worry about sourcing them programs before I start my production. The cameras and equipment such as a tri-pod, lighting, microphone, dolly, slider and a hand-held grip will all be provided by college which means I need to make sure I book them because there is only a limited amount and there will be a lot of people wanting to use them. The only items I will need to source in my pre-production ready for my production is the props, costumes and locations and for this I will need a budget however, I am making use of some equipment I already have which means my budget will be small and I need to create this in my pre-production along with my list of locations.
Looking back on the short movie I created last year I have learned to do the pre-production as fast as possible to ensure I have more time to create my production and put more time into it. I think the technical side of my short movie in my previous year of college went well although I think the story telling and how the story comes across could be improved which is why this year I am focusing more on my story telling and enhancing the camera techniques I use and special effects to help the story telling by engaging the audience more and really exciting the audience whist keeping them entertained.
Throughout the first year I developed better editing skills by teaching myself new techniques in my own time and testing them out in between class time and sometimes during if I had completed everything and I believe this will benefit me a lot this year as it will help me tell my story in a more effective way by engaging and interesting the audience more, and I will do this by adding unique effects that are done in Hollywood movie to make my second year movie as close to a Hollywood movie as possible.
