Practice mise-en-scene analysis:psycho(1960)

Costume:
They have everyday clothes (which were normal in the 60’s) on which shows they are like everyone else. The man is wearing a suit which could suggest he is a business man which shows he is significant and powerful.

Props:
There is stuffed animals scattered across the room which is unusual to have in the time this movie was created and a tray with tea and bread on. There is one lamp which is lit in the room which creates a mystery atmosphere. There is a book with everyone who signed into the hotel which could be the man’s kill list.

Setting:
It is based at a house/motel as the women leaves her room to enter an office which the man invites her into, there is a mystery atmosphere because he invites her into his office then invites her into his room with stuffed animals which only had one lamp lit which isn’t normal behavior as it would be dark and gloomy.
Based upon the dark lighting in the movie it could suggest that the movie is a horror or slasher movie because there is a suspicious atmosphere and it is very dark even with lights turned on.

Performance:
The women acted suspicious against the man because he was very protective over his mam and he enjoys stuffing dead animals, and the man acted strange by barely making any body movement and trying to stop her from leaving.

The man acts creepy towards the women and doesn’t want her to go and by the way he acts he might want to stuff her like his animals because he asks when she is leaving in the morning and then checks the book where she signed in. He also laughs when talking about the death of his mams ex-partner as if he knew something no one else did.

Lighting:
The lighting is very dim/dark which creates a dark tone to the movie. It could show how the man is mysterious and up to no good because he takes her into a dark room with one light lit and then starts creepily smiling at her and telling her about how he stuffs animals for fun.

There is lamps on stands and candles which haven’t been lit yet which could suggest that the motel is normally dark and that the man (who is the owner) likes the motel to be dark.
